Privacy
The short version: we collect what we need to do the work, we don't sell it, and you can ask us what we have.
This policy covers Modern Technologies LLC, at 300 East High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101. It applies to this website, the shop, home memberships, business services, and the customer portal at my.modern1tech.com. Below, "we" and "us" mean that company.
1.What we collect
We collect what we need to do the work and reach you about it. Depending on how you deal with us, that can include:
- Your name, phone number, email address, and postal or billing address.
- The device you brought in, what's wrong with it, what we did, and what we charged. That record includes serial numbers and other identifiers on the equipment itself.
- Payment details. Card payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our own systems.
- Messages you send us, and notes from calls and counter conversations, so the next person who picks up your ticket knows what you already told us.
- For business clients, whatever managing your systems requires, handled on your instructions and set out in the agreement we sign with you.
- For managed computers, our remote-management software collects device details, installed software, settings, and security status.
- When you sign up, we record the date, time, IP address, and which terms you accepted.
- Text messages, if you give us a number: we text you about your job.
- Recordings of remote sessions and support calls, when we make them. We keep a recording only as long as we need it for the job, training or a dispute.
- If we check photo ID at drop-off or pickup, we record the name, the ID type, and at most the last four digits of the ID number on your ticket.
2.Information on devices you leave with us
Repairing a computer or a phone means we can often see what's on it. We look at your files only as far as the work requires. We copy data off your device only as the job needs it: when you've asked us to move or recover it, to protect it before a step that could erase it (which we tell you about first), or to record an error or test result in your ticket. We don't share what we see on your device, except with an outside lab or maker doing the job, or with police, as section 5 and our repair terms describe. We delete copies of your files made for the job usually within 30 days after you collect the device, or after it is abandoned, unless the law or police require us to keep them or you ask us in writing; ticket notes stay with your service record.
Bring us a device that isn't yours to hand over and we may have to stop work. The terms for repairs cover that, along with backups and what happens to data during a repair.
3.What this website does today
As of October 16, 2026: this site runs no advertising and no cross-site tracking, and it sets no cookies for tracking or advertising. There are no customer accounts. It has two forms, the signup form and Secure send, and a sign-in for our own staff, all described below.
The signup form. The Join page asks for your name, phone number, email address, service address, how many computers you want covered, and your agreement to the three statements on the form. If you choose to tell us, it also takes how you heard about us and who referred you. When you submit it we record the date and time, your IP address, and the version of the terms you accepted. We use this to review your signup, set up your membership and reach you about it. Once we approve a signup, it goes to the shop system we run memberships and billing in. The email that tells our staff a signup is waiting carries none of your details. We limit how many signups one connection can send in an hour, using the IP address stored with each signup.
Secure send. Secure send lets you send us a password or account details. Your browser locks the message, your name and what it's for with our key before anything leaves your device, so this site and our host store only text they cannot read, and only our staff can open it. A message is deleted when we open it, or 7 days after you send it if we haven't. The email that tells our staff a message is waiting carries nothing from it. We also keep a permanent log of each message sent and opened, and of refused attempts: the time, the IP address and the browser's user agent (the line that names your browser and system), never the message, your name or what it's for. To limit abuse we count sends from each connection for about an hour, stored as a one-way code, not as your IP address.
The security check. Both forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated programs. On those two pages only, it loads a script and a small frame from Cloudflare that check your browser and connection. When you submit, we send Cloudflare the check's result and your IP address to confirm it, and we get back a pass or a fail. Cloudflare handles that check under its own privacy policy.
Cookies. This site sets two cookies, each only after you submit a form, and neither tracks you. mt_joined, set after a signup, lets the page that confirms it open. mt_sent, set after a secure send, does the same for the page that confirms the message went. Each holds only the value 1, goes back only to that one confirmation page, can't be read by scripts on the page, and expires after 10 minutes.
Staff sign-in. The staff pages of this site are for our staff only. They sign in through Cloudflare Access, which checks who they are and sets its own sign-in cookie for them. Visitors never see that sign-in.
Where it's kept. Cloudflare hosts this site and the database behind both forms, so signup records, sealed secure messages and the secure send log are stored with Cloudflare. Cloudflare, as our web host, also handles standard request data (IP address, pages requested, time) to run and secure the site.
Some links leave this site: to Google Maps for directions, to our Google reviews, and to the outside data recovery labs we name. Those sites have their own policies.
When the site adds something else that collects information, this section is the part that gets rewritten, and the date above changes with it.
4.Why we have it
To do the work you asked for, to quote and bill it, to reach you about it, to keep records our accountant and the tax authorities expect, to protect against fraud, and to run and secure our own systems. We may email customers about our own services and programs. Tell us to stop and we will. We never sell or share your information for anyone else's marketing.
5.Who else sees it
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do use outside companies to run parts of the business: payment processing, remote-management software, accounting, ticketing, email, and software tools, including AI services, that help us answer messages and do the work. We give them only what their job requires. When a job goes to an outside repair or data recovery lab or to the maker, as our repair terms describe, they receive the device and what is on it, and we tell you before it goes. Parts suppliers see what a warranty claim needs. A failed storage drive we can't erase goes back under a warranty or exchange only after we tell you and you agree.
We also share information when the law requires it, when we need it to enforce our agreements or collect a bill, when a person's safety is at stake, and when we report to police something that appears to be a crime, including a device that appears lost or stolen, as our repair terms describe. If you are a plan member, your plan terms control what we share where they say something different. If the business is ever sold or merged, customer records may move with it, and this policy follows them.
6.How long we keep it
Service and billing records stay as long as we need them for warranty questions, disputes, and the record-keeping the tax authorities require. We delete copies of your files made for the job usually within 30 days after you collect the device, or after it is abandoned, unless the law or police require us to keep them or you ask us in writing; ticket notes stay with your service record. Ask us to delete something sooner and we will, unless we need to keep it to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, collect money owed, or enforce our agreements. Copies of your files follow section 2. A signup record stays with your service record. Secure send messages and the secure send log follow section 3.
We may verify your identity before releasing or deleting records.
7.Your choices
Ask us what we have on file and we'll tell you. Ask us to correct it or delete it and we'll do that too, within what we need to keep to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, collect money owed, or enforce our agreements. You don't need to live in a particular state to ask. Where the law gives you specific rights over your information, including the right to know what we collect, to have it deleted or corrected, to receive a copy, and not to be discriminated against for asking, we honor them.
We will never require you to create an account or pay a different price because you exercised one of those rights.
8.Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. A parent or guardian bringing in a child's device is the customer of record.
9.Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect customer information. No one can promise a system is perfect. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as required by law, and we'll tell you plainly.
10.Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we'll tell you by email if we have your address.
11.Questions
Ask us anything about your information, or make a request under this policy, by email or phone. You can also write to us at 300 East High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101, or stop by during business hours.
